Experience Historic Charm: Sea View Inn’s Spring Events

One of only two historic inns on Pawleys Island, the Sea View Inn has welcomed visitors who want to step back in time to a barefoot paradise since 1937.

Special events are planned at the Sea View Inn for the spring and beyond, so people can experience the simple charm of this rustic inn.

Mayor Brian Henry

Pawleys Island Mayor Brian Henry and his wife, Sassie, own the Sea View Inn, as well as Get Carried Away Southern Market in Pawleys Island and Mount Pleasant. Brian Henry said events at the Sea View Inn are just like the vibe on the island: laid back and informal.

“You can participate in as many or as few of the events as you like,” he said. “Sometimes complete relaxation and unplugging is in order. If that’s your mindset that day, it’s all good. But if you are up for some fun and learning, you can do so in the perfect setting.”

Henry urges anyone who has not stayed at the Sea View Inn to give it a try, especially during one of these special events that include two meals a day.

“There are no modern distractions at Sea View,” he said. “There are no cell phones in the common areas and no TVs on the property. And the food is delicious and served by a very hospitable and friendly staff.”

EASTER AT SEA VIEW INN

March 29-31, 2024

Bring the family for this extended holiday weekend. Come and enjoy beautiful, cool weather and an almost private beach at this time of the year. There will be an Easter dinner to remember and warm fires at night in the living room.

“This is the perfect way to kick off the spring and take in some cooler air at the beach, Henry said. “We also typically have a sunrise casual service on the ocean porch for our guests. It really is a special way to take in Easter.”

There is a three-night minimum for this event. Click here for more information.

NATURE WEEK

March 31-April 5

Don’t miss an authentic experience exploring the natural and cultural splendor around Pawleys Island.

“Guided day trips will allow visitors to explore the natural beauty in the surrounding areas and to interpret the incredible flora, fauna, and cultural heritage that most never see,” Henry said. “Nightly fireside demonstrations, storytelling, and live music. This is a light adventure designed for nature lovers with or without kids.”

SPRING ARTISTS’ WORKSHOP

April 19 – 26, 2024

Instructor: Kirah Van Sickle

The annual Spring Artists’ Workshop at Sea View Inn continues its 45th year of combining great painting locations with gorgeous spring weather. The charming shabby chic inn serves two meals a day of low country cooking, adding to the ambience of the most enjoyable workshop.

Artists’ Week began in 1978. Betty Brown first studied there under Alex Powers and became instructor for Artists’ Week in 2002, turning another page in the history of celebrating art at Sea View Inn.  In 2021, the palette was passed to Kirah Van Sickle.

“You can enjoy some of the best of the beach, Lowcountry, and history while getting expert instruction,” Henry said. “There is no better place to explore your inner artist while being completely unplugged from the world.”

Kira takes the artists to a new location each day, having scouted out delightful spots for plein air painting at area plantations, Brookgreen Gardens, and historic cottages on the island.

The week is informal and relaxed. Students are encouraged to do as much or as little as they desire. The groups are small enough to get individual attention. All levels are welcome as long as you feel comfortable painting outside.

If not, you can work on your own at the inn, or avail yourself of instruction that focuses on values, color, and the principles of design. Kira has a natural positive approach to helping individuals achieve their personal goals.

Kirah encourages exploring mark-making and improving visual acuity. She always includes handouts and historical context, and will demonstrate in watercolor and acrylic. She is well versed in all painting mediums and happy to work with participants on their preferred process.

The group winds down by discussing each day’s paintings before supper. Evenings may include videos or slides of other artists’ work. Kira also reserves a time for painting the wait staff/models.

“It’s spring at its finest,” Henry said. “The Sea View Inn is a great place to shake off winter while taking in the beauty of Pawleys Island.”
