Walkable and welcoming: Downtown Pawleys businesses reflect the heart of Pawleys Island

Nestled in the heart of the business district of mainland Pawleys Island, there is a collection of retail stores, spas, and restaurants surrounded by live oaks and a scenic pond.

Dubbed Downtown Pawleys, this vibrant group of award-winning businesses just north of the North Causeway offers a relaxing, welcoming, and distinctly coastal atmosphere that attracts people throughout the year.

“If you haven’t visited Downtown Pawleys, I would recommend that you check it out,” said David Teems, regional property manager. “Come see why locals love it and why visitors keep coming back.”

Retail stores in the shopping area include Sea Gypsy Boutique, Retail Therapy Boutique and Retail Therapy Men’s Store, Mimi Seabrook Boutique, Driftwood Mercantile, Limeablue, Lemon Drops Apparel & Gifts, and Your CBD Store. Spas include Devon’s Salon and Stox & Co. Wellness Cottage (a spa retreat and boutique). Restaurants include Rustic Table, Bistro 217, and Pawleys Island Tavern. There is also an ice-cream parlor called Island Treats.

Business owner Susan Stox, owner of Stox & Co. Wellness Cottage, said she’s glad to be part of this collection of businesses.

“Downtown Pawleys boasts a vibrant selection of establishments that cater to diverse tastes and preferences, from charming retail shops offering stylish clothing, unique gifts, and coastal-inspired home decor, and more,” she said. “It is a place where visitors can unwind with holistic treatments and self-care, as well as quality restaurants serving up creative takes on Southern cuisine in welcoming, laid-back settings.”

Stox said Downtown Pawleys is such a popular place because it strikes that rare balance between laid-back charm and meaningful experience. The live oaks, coastal breeze and front-porch vibes create an inviting ambiance.

“It’s not just about shopping or dining — it’s about being in a place that feels authentic, warm, and connected to the local community,” she said. “It is walkable and welcoming; everything is close together, making it easy to stroll between shops, restaurants, and the spas without ever feeling rushed.”

She added that there is camaraderie between the businesses in Downtown Pawleys.

“We are more than just neighbors — we’re part of a close-knit community partnership built on collaboration, local pride, and a shared commitment to enhancing the Pawleys Island experience,” Stox said. “Whether we’re hosting seasonal events, supporting local artisans, or working together to promote wellness, hospitality, and coastal charm, these businesses form a collective that reflects the heart of Pawleys Island.”

Stox urges people who have not spent time in Downtown Pawleys to come experience one of the true gems of the Pawleys Island area.

“Whether you’re here for a laid-back afternoon of shopping, a relaxing spa experience, or a delicious meal under the oaks,” she said, “Downtown Pawleys invites you to slow down, stay a while, and experience what makes this place so special.”

Guilds Peace, who owns Mimi Seabrook, a retail shop in Downtown Pawleys, agreed that people visiting the area should come by when they get a chance.

“Downtown Pawleys is a must-do in the heart of Pawleys Island,” she said. “Conveniently located, it’s a charming shopping area filled with locally owned boutiques and restaurants that is warm and welcoming.”
